People usually have favorite baseball players for reasons relating to baseball, but hear one story about Jonny Gomes and I'm not sure how he's not your favorite.
I'll start off with his five near death experiences.... yes... FIVE.
-1. A candle tipped over, merged with the fluid from a lighter, and caught his sleeping bag on fire while he was inside of it sleeping.
-2. When he was 16, he was in a severe car accident that killed a good friend of his.
-3. As a senior in high school he was camping with some friends when a crazy old guy chased and shot at him with a shotgun. He got away unscathed.
-4. In 2002, Gomes, just a young guy in his early twenties, suffered from a heart attack.
-5. He was attacked by a wolf.
I'm pretty sure if any one of those five things happened to me I'd have to shut it down for the rest of my life. Probably never do anything ever again. But what does Jonny Gomes do? Oh, just becomes a professional baseball player and helps turn around an entire team and its clubhouse.
A guy like Gomes is vital to a team like the Red Sox, who hoped to have a one year turnaround and succeeded. They needed a guy who could turn the worst clubhouse in baseball to the best one in a year. A lot of the turnaround of the personality of the team was due to the Sox shipping the clubhouse poison to the Dodgers, but I don't think the change would have been possible without Gomes.
So here are some pictures of Jonny Gomes being Jonny Gomes.
